LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ individuals often face stigma and discrimination that can be a serious hinderance to their emotional and mental well-being. LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy is built to help empower individuals and help them navigate challenges effectively and authentically. Research shows LGBTQ+ individuals seek mental health treatment at a higher rate than their non-LGBTQ+ counterparts due to the stigma and discrimination they are faced with on a regular basis. This discrimination may come from society, family members, classmates/peer and places of employment.

Important risk factors of the LGBTQ+ population regarding mental health include:

  • Coming Out

  • Rejection

  • Trauma

  • Substance Use

  • Homelessness

  • Suicide

  • Eating and Weight Disorders

  • Anxiety and Depression
